This incident happened quite recently. I had gone to Manipal hospital along with my friend. After sometime we came out of the hospital and waited for the cab.
I happened to see another Taxi come in near the entrance of the hospital, there was a very anxious looking elderly lady seated in the Taxi, she had a very confused, helpless look on her face and she was constantly looking towards the door of the hospital.
A little while later a very old feeble man seated in the wheel chair was wheeled down by the attender to the taxi. The taxi door was opened by the driver.
The attender stood there insensitive to the old man who was trying to stand up to get into the taxi. Neither the attender nor the taxi driver made any attempt to help him.
The old lady sat on the other side of the taxi and probably she herself needed help and was too weak to help the old man.
The attender did not even put the foot pedal of the wheel chair down nor helped the old man into the taxi.
Why was the attender only doing his duty of wheeling and holding the wheel chair?
Why are elderly helpless people left to fend for themselves in their sunset years?
Are parents only meant to take care of children? Why is it not both the ways now?
Is only financial help enough when you are aged?
Why is there no emotional connect?
Why have things changed so drastically?
This incident still brings tears to my eyes. The only thing I could do that day was to help the elderly man into the taxi.
Why are there so many people like them?
