Chicken Floss Pratha
“Mom only two days to go. Will be flying in flight” my son said in excitement.
“Yeah. Help mom in packing so that we will not forget anything at the last moment” I requested his help.
My mobile rang and I attend the call,
"Good news, 7 Days leave has been confirmed. Get ready.” My husband at the other side.
It's over a year dream to visit Singapore as a family tour. Our son often requested us to go for a long trip during his vacation as his friends have visited Malaysia, Thailand and so on. My husband thought of fulfilling his dream and was discussing about the country and places to visit. He asked whether I have any idea about it, I said no.
I asked him since we don’t have any relatives in foreign country, it will be difficult.
But he said “
That is not a problem there are many travel agencies and there are many packages according to our budget. If we approach them, they will make all the arrangement”. I was not fully convinced. While discussing about the foreign trip, my husband suddenly remembered and said,
“Oh, I forgot to tell you that my friend is in Singapore with his family. He once asked us to visit Singapore. Why should not we approach him?”.
"Seems to be good idea” I blushed.
Then he spoke to his friend and discussed about the nature of Singapore. At last we decided to visit Singapore during my son’s winter holidays. When I was discussing about this with my dad who has just retired from his service, I felt the excitement in his words and he was eager to join us. So I asked my dad, mom and my sister to come along with us. Finally it was decided to visit Singapore as a
5 day trip with my mom, dad, my sister, my son, myself and my husband. We got visa with his friend‘s help and he made all the arrangement for boarding and lodging.
On that fine day with full of dream and excitement we were waiting in the Chennai airport for my dad, mom and my sister. They are supposed to come from Coimbatore. After a while I could see their faces in the airport. Now we are waiting for our turn for stamping. All the formalities got over and were about to board in flight. Yeah that was really a memorable experience in my life not only for me but for my son too.
We landed there at the
Changi international airport after 4 hours of travelling from Chennai. My feet touched the land of Singapore. After stamping we were waiting for my husband's friend. His friend took taxi and we were travelling with him. While travelling I could see huge building, disciplined vehicles all along the road. The taxi just stopped in front of a hotel which displayed
“Value Hotel Thomson”.
”Rooms have been booked for you in this hotel. you can refresh and take rest today. Bye the way, what its you plan?” his friend asked.
My husband said that we don’t have any idea since we are new to that place.
"Okay. Then be ready tomorrow at 8 in the morning. I will pick you all and leave in Merlion park and then I will go to office. Then you can return back to this place.”
We were tired and took rest on that day. On the next day his friend arrived exactly at 8 am and took us to
Merlion park.
His friend said,
“Enjoy the places and you have restaurants here so that you can have lunch over here. Get taxi and go back to the hotel. We will meet in the evening”. We were there for nearly 5 hours taking photos and enjoying with the water valley. My Mom and Dad got tired by walking and were searching for the restaurant. We could recognize only Chinese restaurant. But my dad was particular in having lunch at Indian restaurant. Moreover my son and my sister both were crazy lovers of
Paratha. My husband and myself like non-veg, especially Chicken varieties. So we were searching for a hotel to satisfy everyone. Being tired we don’t have patient in searching so we took a taxi and went to hotel. My husband suddenly called his friend and enquired about hotels nearby Thomson road.
His friend asked
“What types of food you like to have?”
My husband said,
"We want non-veg dishes and parathas”.
Immediately he advised us to visit “
The Roti Prata House” which was in upper Thomson road. He gave directions to reach that place and we followed his instructions. We entered in to a hotel and requested for menu card which containned "Roti Tissue", "Roti Plaster", "Red Bean Parta" and "Prata Benedict." Surprise to see the menu with a item named "Chicken Floss Prata." With excitement I showed my husband and discussed about the menu. He asked the waiter to explain about the menu. The waiter explained that
It is shreds of dried chicken made in parata and it will look fancy. It is a Singaporean based Indian paratha.”
On hearing this my son shouted that he want 'that' to be ordered. We ordered the "Chicken Floss Prata." I and My mom ordered for the
“Roti Tissue” and waited. The mouth watering dish has been placed in front of us. We enjoyed, loved the taste of that two dishes. Since we all are very hungry, we ordered for more and had lunch with full satisfaction. After that we returned back to hotel and were discussing about the lunch we had that day, the way it tasted and so on.
Next day we went to
Universal Studios and spent full day there. It was almost night when we returned to hotel, had dinner over there and slept due to tiredness. Third day we went to
Murugan temple and
Night safari. Fourth day we visited
Singapore Zoo and Singapore flyer and returned only at night.
We were searching for the same dish that we had in
”The Roti Prata House”, but couldn't find anywhere. Fifth day we visited
Marina bay.
As we were there in the park my son suddenly said, "
Mom tomorrow we will be back to Chennai, before that I want to taste that prata we had in the first day. The taste sticks in my tongue, Yummy” He rolled his tongue around his lips and gave a cute expression. Surprisingly my sister also supported my son and we all decided to visit
"The Roti Prata House”again
. On seeing our face the waiter smiled in a friendly way and we ordered the same menu that we had first day”.
We had other dishes at different places in Singapore but one menu where we all loved without other opinion is
“Chicken Floss Pratha”. When we are about to leave Singapore we thanked my husband’s friend for showing us such a wonderful restaurant.
For those who are planning for Singapore as a family tour please do visit
“The Roti Prata House”. You will definitely enjoy and experience a lifetime memorable dish. If ever we have been to Singapore through travel agency definitely we might have missed the wonderful dish we had at Singapore. Today we do order paratha in our house, but each time when we eat paratha , we do remember the dish we had at
“ The Roti Prata House”.
